Maasai Mara Game Reserve is widely considered as Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve. Each year the Mara plays host to the world’s greatest natural spectacle, the Great Wildebeest Migration from the Serengeti. From July to October, the promise of rain and fresh life giving grass in the north brings more than 1.3 million Wildebeest together into a single massive herd. This is a spectacular entrance in a surging column of life that stretches from horizon to horizon. At the Mara River they mass together on the banks before finally plunging forward through the raging waters, creating frenzy as they fight against swift currents and waiting crocodiles. The wildebeest bring new life to the Mara, not just through their cycle of regeneration of the grasslands, but for the predators that follow the herds.

The Mara has been called the Kingdom of Lions and these regal and powerful hunters dominate these grasslands. Cheetahs are also a common sight in the Mara, as are Hyena and smaller predators such as Jackals.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is a conservation area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera within the area, is recognized by one private organization as one of the Africa. The main feature of the Ngorongoro Conservation Authority is the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater, which formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago, is 610 meters (2,000 feet) deep and its floor covers 260 square kilometers (100 square miles). Estimates of the height of the original volcano range from 4,500 to 5,800 meters (14,800 to 19,000 feet) high.  The Ngorongoro Crater includes most of the animal species found in East Africa. Approximately 25,000 large animals, mostly ungulates, live in the crater.

Large animals in the crater include the black rhinoceros. There also are many other ungulates: the wildebeest, Burchell’s, the Grant’s, and Waterbuck occur mainly near Lerai Forest. There are no topis; Giraffe also are absent, possibly because of a lack of browse species. Cheetah, lions, African wild dog , and leopard are rarely seen. Although thought of as “a natural enclosure” for a very wide variety of wildlife, 20 per cent or more of the wildebeest and half the zebra populations vacate the crater in the wet season. Lake Magadi, a large lake in the southwest of the crater, is often inhabited by thousands of mainly Lesser Flamingoes.

Day 09: Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Arusha:

This day will be spent in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a full day gamedrives. Picnic lunches will be provided during lunch and thereafter depart to Arusha for drop off at the airport for your flight to Home.
