Offbeat Meru Camp – Meru National Park, Kenya

Offbeat Meru CampOffbeat Meru Camp is a luxury semi-permanent camp located just outside Meru National Park about 80 km east of Meru or 350 km from Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi. Offbeat Meru Camp is a twelve bed luxury camp Meru National Park in Bisanadi National Reserve. The camp is small, traditional and located on the edge of Meru National Park in the Bisanadi National Reserve.

Offbeat Meru Camp is hosted by owner Piers Winkworth. The camp consists of only 6 tents – 3 twins and 3 doubles. Each tent is furnished with a large iron bed, its own en-suite bathroom, traditional bucket shower and flushing toilet. In addition, there is 24 hour solar lighting in the tents, while the rest of the camp is lit by traditional ’tilly’ lamps. Informal dining is hosted in the mess tent or around the campfire. There is also a spacious ‘mess’ tent with comfortable sofas, a writing table and bar.

Days are tailored to suit guest’s requirements. Activities include day and evening game drives; bush breakfasts, picnics and sundowners; fly fishing in the local rivers. This area of Kenya gets quite hot during the dry season. After an active morning in the bush there’s no better feeling than coming back to camp and cooling off in the stunning infinity swimming pool watching the wildlife as it comes to drink from the Bisanadi River below you.

Serena Mountain Tree Lodge – Mount Kenya National Park, Kenya

The nearest towns are Nyeri (42 Kilometers) and Nanyuki (73 Kilometers).

Serena Mountain Lodge is located in primeval forests of Kenya’s highest mountain; Mount Kenya. The Hotel is actually a timber tree hotel which offers champagne-clear mountain air, sweeping views across the tree-canopy, sparkling trout streams, and gentle forest walks.

Serena Mountain Lodge is situated at 2,134 metres above sea level, on the lower slopes of the mountain, the lodge is cool, tranquil and hushed for optimum game-sightings. The open-air viewing-deck looks down on to its own water hole and salt-lick, which attracts numerous herds of elephant and buffalo.

There is also a tunnel leading to a photo-hide, which offers spectacular viewing and photographic opportunities just metres away from the wildlife at the water hole.

Serena Mountain Lodge activities include guided walks through the forest, trout fishing in the clear mountain streams, trips to the high moorlands of the mountain, and 5-day luxury climbs of the mountain. Naro Moru River Lodge

Naro Moru River Lodge is the base for climbing Mt. Kenya. The lodge ias set in beautiful tropical gardens along the banks of the Naro Moru River, fed by the snows of Mount Kenya and is well stocked with brown & rainbow trout.

The location is one of the finest ornithological sites in Kenya with an exceptional variety of bird life. Naro Moru River Lodge is located at 2,155 meters ( 7,100 ft), tucked into the side of Mount Kenya, 16 km south of the Equator, in a 10-hectare (20-acre), stream-fed enclave of peace and serenity.

Naro Moru River Lodge consists of 19 deluxe cottages with 2 double beds, bathrooms and toilet and fireplace with sitting room area all elegantly furnished in pine 12 standard cottages with double and single beds and separate bathroom and toilet 12 self service cottages of varying sizes geared to the family holiday

Old Moses and Shiptons are two well Maintained Mountain huts located along the popular Sirimon Route on Mount Kenya.

Ken Trout Guest Cottages Timau, Kenya

Ken Trout Guest Cottages is located 3 kilometers south of Timau, a small town between Isiolo and Nanyuki. Ken Trout Guest Cottages restaurant offers great fish, if you like trout, you will be served!

The breeding pond is located on the site and visit. Vegetables are also grown locally, they are organic! (You can also stop by to eat, but at lunchtime only).

Trout Guest Cottages main house is an old building full of charm. The main house (which sleeps up to eight) is rented exclusively and has old plank floors and brick fire places in most rooms

The cottages are much smaller but more crosier. The cottages are spacious rooms with wooden floors, all with fireplaces ready to serve, and bathrooms antiquated but charming in their way.

Mountain Rock Bantu Lodge

Mountain Rock Bantu Lodge is situated on the foothills/lower slopes of Mount Kenya. The lodge borders Mount Kenya National Park and located 15 Kilometers south of Nanyuki Town, approximately 4 – Hours drive from Nairobi.

Nanyuki River Camel Camp

Nanyuki River Camel Camp is designed to offer you the experience of the lifestyle of the Northern Nomadic peoples, within a few kilometers of Nanyuki town. You sleep in the traditional houses, eat traditional meals, drink camels’ milk, and have the opportunity of learning about the lives of nomads and their camel experts.

Nanyuki River Camel Camp was developed by Chris Field after spending twenty years living as a nomad, helping pastoralists become more self reliant, in the arid regions of northern Kenyan on the Ethiopia border. Although three quarters of Kenya is arid or semi arid, most visitors to Kenya never experience such extreme ways of lives.

Timau River Lodge, Mount Kenya Slopes, Nanyuki Kenya

Timau River LodgeTimau River Lodge is situated on the forested slopes of Mt Kenya, a wonderfully offbeat place, consisting of several lovely thatched cottages of varying sizes and a well-equipped campsite with a large covered cooking area. Timau River Lodge has camping sites as well as bandas for rent. Several simple bandas built of cedar logs sleeping 2-4 people.

The cabins are numbered alphabetically based on animal names. Campsites located amongst trees at the top of a very pretty waterfall, where geese and ducks wander around.

River Timau Lodge is in an idyllic setting with a whole range of animals roaming free through out – Peacocks, Ducks, Geese, Tortoises, Guinea Fowls etc. The lodge is also close to Mount Kenya so guests are able to enjoy good views.

Sportsman’s Arms Hotel, Nanyuki
